There is nothing quite like homemade and upcycled christmas decorations, especially of they are upcycled.
I have been having lots of fun coming up with ideas to enter a competition being run by Light Bulbs Direct. The brief is “This competition involves redecorating light bulbs into Christmas baubles and other festive decorations”
Regular readers will know why this immediately appealed to me:) Nothing like a good bit of upcycling:)
To make your own upcycled light bulb bauble you will need
- Old container (I used the bottom of a drinks bottle)
- Nail Varnish
- Light bulbs
- String
- A means of hanging up the bulbs to dry
- Sheet/paper to protect the table of dripping water/nail varnish
- Ribbon
To make:
Add water to your container, and drop some nail varnish in (you don’t need much).
Lower your bauble gently into the water, turning it round to capture the swirled nail varnish.
Hang your bauble to dry.
When the nail varnish has dried, try dipping again with a different colour of nail varnish to gain a marble effect.
Tip, use a pen/wooden skewer to swirl the nail varnish around before dipping in the light bulb.
Once the light bulb has dried it is time to pretty up the screw/bayonet end of the light bulb.
Wrap ribbon around, ensuring you create a loop to hang from your Christmas tree.
One finished bauble:)
If you too fancy creating upcycled baubles from light bulbs then Lightbulbsdirect have created a pinterest board of inspiration, there are some fun ideas. Enter the competition here. What is your favourite homemade christmas decoration? Or upcycled Christmas decoration?
PS I have no idea how nail varnish reacts to heat, therefore I do not recommend using nail varnish on a lightbulb you intend to switch on.

I've never used nail varnish in this way, it's a great idea :)

This is very cute! Good for you that you still found some of these old styled light bulbs. They are getting harder and harder to find. I love a good up cycle.
