Have you come across kids clothes week #kcw? The premise is simple, sew an hour a day for seven days for your kids.
To be honest I wasnt planning on joining in, but then I read that this weeks theme is upcycling..! Well it would be rude not to, especially with this big pile of tshirts!
T Shirt Dress DIY
First up a t-shirt dress, with gathered knit skirt. I started off with a red t shirt from my brother and a charity shop skirt for £3.
Using a pattern I already owned (uptown/downtown dress) I cut out the top, and using the extension markings on the pattern worked out the length of the skirt.
Continuing to learn how to use my serger/overlocker I gathered the top of the skirt, as this did not gather sufficiently I then hand gathered up and attached the skirt to the dress.
The dress took two hours, in the main because I made some mistakes which I decided to unpick and rectify. I have learnt how to attach a neckline (as in make it an inch shorter that the measurement for the neck so it lies flat).
I pleased with the result, I learnt some skills. Plus my daughter has a dress for £3 (as opposed to last years similar dress which cost me £22 from the shops).

You can't beat a great find that gets greater. I wish I could sew things other than coin purses and clutches, grr. Hah. Happy Saturday!
