Kids Clothes Week

PIf you are looking for the Grow Your Blog post it is here.

Kids Clothes Week– I made it, one hours sewing per day for the week. I have really enjoyed joining in this week

Last September I bought my daughter a meters worth of this bright butterfly knit, with the intention  of making her a dress. This week I finally tackled the project.

Not owning an overlocker I did a little research about sewing knit fabrics – I found a you tube video explaining that straight stitching does not have the give of a knit fabric and can therefore pop and break. It suggested instead to stitch with a zigzag stitch which provides some stretch. Armed with a suitable sewing machine needle optimism prevailed.

I am delighted to finish the dress/tunic – am I tempted to sew with knit fabric again? No! My machine skipped the odd stitch, and adding a zip as per the pattern was problematic.

Here’s for my daughters long hair hiding the zip – although her hair is not long enough to show I haven’t matched the pattern up down the central back seam!!

Any tips on sewing knit fabric greatly appreciated – my son could really do with some more PJ’s, and I have lots of XL t-shirts ready for conversion:) Trusting they are considerable less stretchy!

In other news I have started a years on line marketing course with Handmade Horizons, we had our first webinar this week. It’s really exciting, and challenging. Already I have a lot to reflect on:) If anyone fancies helping with some of the home work I need to describe in great detail my ideal customer… I am thinking about customers who buy the eco recycled bags I make. If I can drill down into the type of person they are then I can identify the blogs &magazines they read, where they shop etc.. If you fancy identifying your own dream customer the worksheet is freely available at Polly and Claires website

Hope you have a creative week:) I’m brimming with new ideas for bags.

As usual I am popping by Handmade Harbour 🙂

What gorgeous fabric. Knitted fabric can be quite tricky to work with so well done on making the dress.

Here's a link which you might find useful as it has lots of tips about working with knits. http://www.sew4home.com/tips-resources/sewing-tips-tricks/oh-baby-fabriccom-sewing-knits

Hope this helps xx

She does, but she has not chosen to wear it!! I suspect it is not the hit the skipping skirt was:)

Lovely fabric, I'm a big fan of butterflies but not of stretchy fabric. It looks great for all seasons too. I like it with the T.shirt underneath.
