Bag Pattern Testing, Serger Pepper

I am delighted to share Serger Pepper’s new pattern. I recently tested the pattern for Hands-free Asymmetrical Bag, and met a lovely group of other makers and bloggers. This bag is a designed as an every day bag, perfect for many occasions.

This bag is a useful messenger bag, with many pockets. The design feature I love best is the beautiful curves .

The pattern comes as a PDF, which you print off and piece together. This was the first time where I have printed off a PDF for piecing. Once  my printer stopped playing up it went together well.

The advantage of a pattern for every piece including the rectangular pieces, bottom of the bag etc is that the designer can include useful dressmaking marks to help with the positioning of the pieces as you sew the bag together. Understanding how all the pieces fitted together was significantly helped by a 3D pencil drawing at the beginning of the pattern.

One of the aspects of this bag pattern I love is Irene’s encouragement to the maker to consider using recycled fabrics to make the bag and gives helpful tips re using former trousers and how much fabric you will need.

I used two former skirts for accent fabrics and an offcut of fabric to make my version, I only needed to buy interfacing – nothing quite like a free new bag:)

If you would like to make this bag yourself it is available here. If you fancy pattern testing yourself Irene is looking for more testers to join her crew. Thanks Irene for the opportunity to bag pattern test for you:)
