Do you have a stash of old jeans? Love making fun advent calendars? Then this DIY advent calendar is for you. There is so much joy to be had making your own advent calendar. If you love the idea of prompts for Christmas activities check out my printable list, this year I think I am going to add cheesy Christmas jokes and chocolates.

In previous years I have made advent calendars from toilet rolls, last year I made mini denim stockings to hang from a stick Christmas tree.  This year’s Christmas advent calendar is a perfect no sew project for old jeans.

Check out my you tube video to make a denim pocket Christmas Advent calendar.

Cut out 24 or 25 denim pockets, you must include the back of the pocket for it to remain a pocket!

Using a stencil and fabric paint print numbers onto the pockets – first I strongly suggest practising on a spare piece of fabric. Practising will help you find the right balance of paint on the paintbrush.

Once you reach double numbers I suggest stencilling the first number, allowing to dry before stencilling the second number to avoid any smudging.

Once your numbers have fully dried, using a tapestry needle thread garden twine through the pockets of the twine runs behind the pockets.

I have created four rows of the pockets, the first row has five pockets the second six pockets, the third and fourth seven pockets.

Cut out thin strips of fabric scraps approx 1/2″ by 4″, fold over the twine and wrap a thread around to secure.

I have added these red splashes of fabric in between and at the end of each row of pocket.

For hanging your denim Christmas advent calendar you can tie the strings to a wooden pole, from individual nails on the wall or from   . If you decide to use check the weight limit of your denim pockets with gifts to ensure you buy the right size hooks.

Your ideas are novel and interesting. Thank you for sharing. I will try to make a calendar like this for my children. I'm curious why didn't you embroide the numbers on the pocket? That will be more beautiful.
