Sea Glass Decor Idea

Looking for craft ideas for your collection of sea glass? Create sea glass decor, quickly and easily

As winter begins to draw to a close I am beginning to count down the days to our annual family holiday to the southern coast in France. I relax walking between beautiful coves, as a family hunting for sea glass. As we fly home our suitcases are a little heavier due to the weight of the collected glass!

There is one particular cove where we seem to be lucky, often having a little competition to see who can find the first piece of blue, a much rarer find.

Sea Glass Decor

For some time I have thought about making sea glass balls as table decor for the home. They are super easy to make, the time-consuming part is collecting the sea glass alternatively you can buy sea glass.

To make your own sea glass balls you will need polystyrene balls, sea glass, and a glue gun. You will need a variety of sizes and shapes of sea glass, larger polystyrene craft balls can take larger pieces of glass.

My polystyrene balls measure 11”, 9” and  7”

I have chosen to work in predominantly green sea glass so it contrasts with the white ball.

Use a glue gun to adhere the sea glass to the polystyrene ball. Place glue onto the ball, then press on a piece of sea glass one at a time.

Gradually build up your shapes and consider the shades of glass as you go, I like to mix them up a little.

I started with my largest polystyrene ball using my largest pieces of glass. These range in size from approx 1 1/4” to  5/8”, the middle has pieces about 3/4”- 5/8” and the smallest pieces 5/8” and smaller.

Although sea glass can come with a curved edge it’s not necessarily going to be the right curve for your ball. It is, therefore, sensible to work with small pieces where the flat edge fits the side of the ball, smaller ball equals deeper curves and therefore smaller pieces of glass.

It's so great that you can find sea glass to use. I don't have much luck when searching for it. The orbs look perfect for coastal decor.

Oh I just love sea glass! We have a few beaches where we like to go and search for sea glass too. What a fun way to display the pieces you found. Pinned.
