Fabric Selvage Cushion Cover

P1040196

I’ve been gathering my fabric selvage’s for some time, it reached a point where I felt I had enough to create a project. That or it was time to make another storage basket.

My cushion covers are looking somewhat the worse for wear. An ideal chance to redesign, recover.

I used the old cushion cover as template, and utilised the old zip as the fastening for the cushion cover.

Starting across the middle of the cushion I layered selvage edges, zig zagging the raw edges down.

The cushion cover used far more selvages than I anticipated. I am delighted with the finished cushion cover, and am already saving my selvage edges.

Selvage Edge Cushion cover

What do you use your selvage edges for?

As usual I am popping by Handmade Harbour 🙂

A lovely cushion cover, and a great idea to re-use the zip from an old one - particularly as it has made me realise that now I can sew zips, I can make cushion covers myself! I've not had many selvedges yet, but my initial thought would have been to throw it away - now I shall keep them and find a nice project to do.

What a great idea! It's a very modern cushion and would look great with many designs. Thanks for sharing.

My Grandmother used to do the same sort of thing with old silk cigar-box ribbons. BTW, you might also want to use a ZigZag stitch over the frayed edges to keep them more secure.
