Create pants out of t-shirts

Do you have lots of old t-shirts kicking around? Are you thrifty, and/or hate fabric going to landfill? This pattern is for you!! Create pants/knickers for your girls from age 3-14 with the one pattern.

I was delighted to recently pattern test for Serger Pepper, particularly as you can easily upcycle old t shirts into some handy knickers for your daughter.

I opted to cut up my daughters much loved, way too small PJ’s my Mum had kindly made her a couple of years ago.

Frustratingly I skim read the pattern and cut two many pieces and then tried to use them all!!

The size of daughters current pants indicated I had gone wrong!!

Starting again I followed the pattern properly, and read Irene’s really helpful blog post re sewing knits. I discovered tissue paper, a walking foot and reading your sewing machines instructions can be really helpful!!

It transpires my sewing machine has a knit stitch. yeah, a transforming piece of knowledge!

Once I followed the instruction the big briefs went together well, and really quickly. There is a moment when you may think, what?? This is as you sew the crutch pieces together, I did run off and sneak a look at pictures on Serger Peppers blog to help!

Once the crutch is mastered, it’s down to pretty detailing at the front, and joining the back and front together.

Last but not least I added the binding. Once you have made one pair you will be able to whip at least two pairs per hour.
