#zerowasteweek Reuseing our Christmas Tree

If you are a fan of Pinterest you may recognize the concept of our branch Christmas tree. We had great fun decorating our tree. The kids chose bright baubles from the charity shop and I coped with a bit of bling.

After the Christmas was over we decided to keep the tree, decorating monthly per the seasons. Its fun to have a changing piece of wall art, which as  family we can create together. Plus its important to value what we have, to not just throw it away because thats what you do!

In January the kids made paper snowflakes (with help from my husband), wishful thinking on their part as we had no snow fall last winter.

Next valentines day – I loved experimenting with the embroidery stitches on my machine and using red fabric from my stash.

Then came Easter, the kids and I made eggs out of air drying clay with some stamps for decoration. We loved doing this together, they were being crafty and I satisfied my tasteful criteria my limiting ink choices for stamping!

Then we stalled – I’m ashamed to admit until the weekend the tree still had eggs decorating it! But no longer, I have learnt to crochet. I feel this deserves a drum roll, as I’ve only been aspiring to learn for two years!! It turned out all I needed to get going was the right project.

In our household it will remain summer for a little longer so I can appreciate the crochet flowers!!

Although I have spotted some beautiful crochetted autumnal leaves which I may try as my next crochet project.

Have you reused Christmas decorations throughout the year? Are you joining in zerowaste week this year?

That is such a lovely idea - I'm feeling all inspired now! I used to keep a beautiful 'nature table' when my daughter was young and I really miss it. Your idea is simple and so effective. THanks for sharing :) x

I ADORE this idea. TOTALLY love it. Any chance you've got a tute for the crochet buttons squirrelled away somewhere that I can't find? They are awesome and would make such cute hair clips too.
