Tooth Fairy Palace Pillow

I am so excited about this recent make that I just had to write a tutorial so you can make your own Tooth Fairy Palace Pillow.

Tooth Fairy Palace Pillow #tutorial

This latest commission started with the inevitable Pinterest Board for toothfairy pillow ideas:) There are so many different ideas, but when I heard that the little girl in question believes that the fairy’s use the teeth to build palaces a palace it had to be.

Start with a sketch of your design, at the size of your finished pillow.

Select your fabric scraps:)

Trace your design to create pattern pieces for roof and door

Trace your design onto base fabric – I used the trick from school days of laying the pencil drawing face down on the fabric and rubbing on the back to produce a trace of pencil on the base fabric.

Cut out pieces, two of each one for the front and one for the back. Apply bond-a-web to adhere to the pieces onto the fabric.

Stitch roof pieces, and draw with stitching the walls and windows

Make the door – Lay right sides together, stitch door shape and turn right side out. Stitch door onto base fabric down each side, leaving the top of the door open to create a pocket or tooth and coins. Hand stitch button on as door handle.

Apply light weight interfacing to the base fabric the size of the finished design, this acts as a very useful guide for stitching the pillow panels together.

Stitch the front and back together, right sides together, leaving the bottom open for turning right side out. Ensure you insert some ribbon if you would like a tie for hanging from a bedpost. Trim fabric at corners, turn right side out. Stuff and slip stitch your opening shut. (A little confessions I ended up having to remove the light weight interfacing in order to turn it right side out, and ended up with slightly less pointed roofs than I had intended!)

As usual I am popping by Handmade Harbour, and then I might just go and whip up some more palaces:)

That is so cute and so fun for the tooth fairy! I would even make one just to display because it's so cute!

Hope so:) I learn this week the reason why tooth fairies build their palaces out of teeth is so that little people brush their teeth until they sparkle:)
