Have you been following Makery’s series The Refashioners 2015 . There’s been some fabulous designs created from former shirts by a wide variety of sewing bloggers. There’s an opportunity to join in, entering your own refashioning of a shirt for the chance to win a prize worth over £700. I have so many ideas re shirts, I’m not sure where to start. But that’s great as you can enter as many creations as you like, the only problem I have is time…!!

My first refashioning is a toddler dress. I have used four shirts to create a simple dress for my niece.

Toddler Dress Pattern, use four mens shirts to create a stylish toddelr dress

I used this toddler dress pattern as the basis for my design. I started with cutting out the bodice and sleeves.

Sewing up the curves seams I created the basis of top. Dividing the suggested length of dress into four I used strips of shirt gathering them slightly to add some fullness to the dress.

I stitched the seams using a overlocker.

I took the button placket from the pink shirt and added to the center of the dress as a feature.

Next up the side seams.

Finally adding elastic to the neckline and sleeves. The design of an elasticated neck makes this really easy to take on and off a baby/toddler.

I love the result, more importantly my sister in law likes it too (my brother recognised one of the shirts as his!).
