Goal setting… new ideas..

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to set myself monthly goals to help grow and develop my business, and the same time to enjoy and develop creatively.

One of my goals is to enjoy making new designs and ideas (a minimum of one a month in case you are wondering). This week I have made a prototype for a handbag organiser, thanks to an old copy of Making magazine for instructions.

Handbag Organiser

Handbag Organiser

Place all your items together, and just pop into which ever handbag you are using on the day. Lots of pockets for make up, hand cream, mobile etc.. Preferably of course a handmade bag!!
Measures 25.5cm by 6.5 cm and is 13cm high…

I have to admit it has turned out bigger than I anticipated.. what do you think? I could do with some feedback? Is it a good idea? What would you pay for one? what size, how many pockets etc..!! Thank you:)

I hope you have had a creative week, and achieved some of your goals:)

I LOVE it! My daughter-in-law gave me some she bought at a boutique a few years ago in small, medium, and large and I’ve loved having all the different sizes! 🙂

I used to use mine a lot in my work bag and it was great. I really like the larger gap in the middle of yours as it looks like it’d fit a long purse (which my one doesn’t). I might prefer it a bit squarer maybe, but that’s just personal preference really.

Thank you, that’s really helpful feedback. Did wonder if the middle should be big enough for an IPAD mini, and/or Kindle?

I also think this is a great idea. I suppose it is a bit like the nappy bags you get with pockets for milk, nappies, changing bags etc. I hate never being able to find anything. The sections I think that would be useful are: keys, phone, pens, receipts/cards etc, possibly water bottle? I am sure that others will think of all the things I have left out!

I like the idea of being able to change bags with minimum effort. I think a nappy bag one somebody suggested is a good idea. (In reply to your question on my blog the coasters are for sale but not in my Etsy shop!)

I love it. My sister uses one and I thought about making myself one. Yes to the Kindle pocket – I never leave the house without my Kindle and I know I can’t be the only one.

My friend asked me to make one of these a few months ago. She’s still waiting, but they’re certainly a great idea and the Kindle pocket is a must!

Oooh this is a great idea! I’d never heard of a bag organiser before but it makes perfect sense 🙂

Yours is gorgeous, i love the fabrics you’ve used! x

I think these are a great idea! You probably just need to work out a small/medium/large guide as bags sizes are so varied. Your fabric choices are beautiful.

Thanks, been loooking for similiar fabric for the inside as this was a remnant passed on from someone from years ago!

I think the handbag organiser would prove very popular. Especially a set of different sizes. eg small medium and large. Perhaps separate prices for each size, or a reduction if all three were bought together.

Great idea, apart from anything else I hate that panic you have when you’ve lost an essential item because it’s trapped down the bottom of your bag

  11. March 13, 2013 / 9:17 am

What a great idea!I’m always losing stuff or leaving things behind when I change bags!

    • March 13, 2013 / 9:22 am

Thank you:) I need to find some more vintage fabric pieces to make some more:)

  12. March 13, 2013 / 7:33 pm

Brilliant idea – I switch between 3 work bags and 2 handbags and keeping all my stuff together is a nightmare. Could you try a zipped version? That would be ideal for my teaching bags 🙂

    • March 13, 2013 / 7:37 pm

I’ve been thinking about zips.. would have to get my head round them! I think it’s a good idea, thanks:)

It turned out lovely. Oh my, you are so talented so sew like that! I am struggling to make a double lining for a crocheted bag. Wish you were here to help me.

    • March 14, 2013 / 6:58 am

We would be able to help each other as not getting anywhere learning to crochet!

  14. March 15, 2013 / 12:20 pm

That is brilliant! Looks really good and I can see that it would hold everything you’d need 🙂 I don’t often switch bags but if I did, having one of those would be ideal! Simmi x
