I’m excited to be taking part in the I Didn’t Throw It Away Blog Train hosted by Agy.
“Is there a story behind every item that we keep? How do we form that special connection with them, and why does it last so long? “
Having signed up for this fun blog hop I scratched my head, did I have an item 20+ years old to share?? Considering the fact I love to upcycle and value what I have I was amazed that I did not have a number of objects spring to mind, twenty years is not that long ago surely?!
Gradually it dawned on me that I graduated from a HND in Craft (almost a degree for those of you who are not english) back in June 1995, very nearly 20 years ago. I have very little of craft work from that era, in those days it was popular to take slides of your work. How times have changed in such a short time. However I do have the fishing tackle box I bought for carrying sewing threads back and forth to college. This purchase was fairly pivotal, early on in the course I really wasn’t sure it was for me. I had until week 13 to make my mind up whether to stay or give it up in terms of funding – this purchase was the moment I has realised that I was staying! Is is wearing well, and continues to hold all my threads.
The other items I own are my Gran’s – I have her sewing scissors (admittedly they could do with a sharpen), her sewing basket, her jam pan, and her weighing scales. These hold sentimental value as they were hers, the last time I saw her I remember showing her my portfolio for art college and her real delight, interest and encouragement in me developing my creativity. It is so precious to me that I am able to use her sewing equipment now.
Tomorrow Andrea from LittleDidYouKnow will share with us the stories behind the things she didn’t throw away. I am delighted to find Andrea’s blog, she shares some inspiring refashions. Andrea is a stay-at-home mum who loves to sew and travel. Please do visit her, you won’t be disappointed:)

The fishing tackle box is a great way to store threads, Vicki - compact and easy to carry.

Fab post!!! It is all too easy isn't it to live in such a disposable world. Something which has stood the test of time is a wonderful thing! I am going to have to go looking for things I have kept for 20 years now!! xx
